About This Project
Hi, I am Vera. Though born and raised in Singapore, I spent the past few years rediscovering my paternal roots and feeling a stronger, deeper connection to the places my ancestors called home.
I reconnected with distant family in Hainan, China, and close relatives in Medan, Indonesia, tracing the migration routes that shaped my heritage.
From Hainan to Medan, where they became part of the Baba Peranakan community, to Katong in Singapore, where my father grew up and where I set up my first home at 22, these journeys have shaped how I connect to this world and how I show up in it.
This project is a tribute to those roots, a celebration of the Baba Peranakan legacy, and an exploration of the traditions that shape my identity.
